About

New Monmouth Presbyterian Church is a community with great history as well as great excitement about what God is now doing in our midst.

Founded in 1746, our congregation has seen its area go through many changes. Along with Kerrs Creek and the Lexington area, New Monmouth has changed, too. The hymnals you find in the pews or the styles of dress may not be the same as they were fifty years ago, but through it all we still seek to ground ourselves in God’s Word. We humbly seek to follow it and worship Jesus Christ, who revealed himself in the Bible.

As Presbyterians, we are rooted in what is called the “reformed” tradition, which takes its name from the Reformation that happened in the Church 500 years ago. At that time the church was struggling against teachings that said we could buy or earn salvation. It gave humanity the impossible task of being good enough for God on our own. Besides being impossible, it isn’t what God had shown us in his word.

So every Sunday we seek to emphasize the good news of a sovereign God who shows a sinful people grace and mercy, and he does so in Jesus Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn God’s love, rather we believe it is about what God has already done in Jesus.

Pastors

In the summer of 2016 Rachel and Casey Clark were called to be the pastors of New Monmouth. They came along with their four children (now five) and have enjoyed serving this congregation and becoming a part of the community.

Rachel attended Wheaton College outside Chicago, Illinois, and Casey went to school just up the road at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They met in seminary and learned how they shared many passions for ministry. The two served together in Durham for almost eight years before coming to Lexington and they hope they can use their gifts to help this congregation be a light for Christ in Rockbridge County.
